Situated on the northwest side of Kingston between Princess Street, and 401 and west of Gardiners Road, Cataraqui Woods began its’ development almost 30 years ago. Midland Park is around 15 years old with substantial newer development in Woodhaven. Cataraqui North neighbourhood has Semi’s to executive homes and has ease of access to the 401, from Sydenham Road.
Situated along the Inner Harbour and The Great Cataraqui River and extending to the 401 makes this area quite popular. Future proposed site for a Power Centre and the third crossing from John Counter to Gore Road. This district offers an Athletic Centre and an Arena.
This district is nestled between the 401, The Great Cataraqui River, and Division Street Shopping Strip. Older neighbourhoods with some new construction that began approximately ten years ago. Currently under construction is the new Shannon Park and Rideau Heights Community Centre which will house a skate pad, playground area, library, gymnasium, seniors and youth space with kitchen and lounge. The projected date for completion is January 2018.
Amherstview is located on the edge of Lake Ontario on the West side of Kingston. Spears Blvd separates the older neighborhoods and the ever expanding new neighbourhoods. This District offers the WJ Henderson Recreation centre, home to Pool, Ice pad, and Library, as well as the Loyalist Golf Club. Many Home Builders have chosen to work in Amherstview because it offers developmental growth both north and west.
Located in the middle of the city, this district offers the most amount of shopping. The population in this district is fairly small compared to other neighborhoods because there is a substantial amount of commercial establishments.
This district is one of the most culturally diverse in Kingston. Lots of shopping that includes the downtown and outlet stores near the 401. The K-Rock Centre features top acts throughout the year and is Home to the Kingston Frontenacs. Easy access to the Causeway and 401. In 1951 the Memorial Centre was built and still provides this district with ice hockey, fall fairs, and the Tomlinson Aquapark.
Situated along Collins Bay are highly populated well established family neighborhoods with lots of warmth and charm. This area is close not only to The Rio Can box stores and Trinity Centre, but to all shopping in general. With a Movie Theatre and restaurants it is a desirable place to call home.
This district is located east of Loyalist Township and between Taylor Kidd and Princess Street. Highly populated, well established family neighborhoods with many parks and some developmental growth. There is a wide range of homes and price ranges in this district. The newly expanded Bayridge Drive to Creekford Road makes for easy access to the 401. Close to the Cataraqui Town Centre (locally known as the CAT Centre), Box Stores, Movie Theatre and restaurants.
This district is located right along the Saint Lawrence River and is home to Canadian Forces Base Kingston, The Royal Military College, and Fort Henry. District 11 has more of a country setting with small independent subdivisions. Most areas east of the base along highway #2 do not have municipal services, rather homes have water wells and septic systems.
There are many things to see and do in downtown Kingston. Enjoy Springer Market Square for Spring movie nights; Summer and Fall farmers market; and skating in the winter. From long established Greek and Italian restaurants to chains, “The Hub” is home to over 40 restaurants. Whether you would like a nice light lunch or enjoy the experience of fine dining it is all here! In front of City Hall is our beautiful Kingston Harbour and Confederation Basin. Many people boat in from all over the Thousands Islands to moor and take advantage of our fair city. Extending north of the city from 401 to South Frontenac most properties are on water wells and septic systems. Some areas do offer natural gas and other forms of heating such as propane and oil. Properties are much larger in the country than those in the city so you enjoy more space and a little more privacy. Hamlets are close by to fuel up and grab some items at convenience stores.
Located in south central Kingston this district is home to St. Lawrence College and Queen’s West Campus. Lake Ontario Park is a very popular location with a play area and splash pad. Portsmouth Olympic Harbour hosts many events throughout the year such as the Bridle and Garden Show. The boat launch at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour is a busy spot during the summer. The Harbour was built for trade in and out of Kingston and supplied the Kingston Penitentiary. Portsmouth Village was built to house the prison guards and their families. The Kingston Penitentiary was decommissioned in 2013 and have recently announced that tours of this facility will begin again in 2017.
Located on the south side of Bath Road to Lake Ontario, East of the Little Cataraqui Creek and extending to Amherstview to the West, are predominately retirement neighbourhoods with parks, golf course and airport. The Norman Rogers Airport has many flights each day to Toronto and Ottawa and is scheduled for an expansion in order to accommodate larger planes.
Extending from Bath Road to the 401, west to Sydenham Road and east to Sir John A. MacDonald centres this District in the city. Among the half a dozen neighbourhoods in this area some are in a period of progression. The mature trees in larger manicured backyards are what buyers pay attention to. This district is enjoying some growth because of the popular Purdy Mills subdivision being developed.

I never really gave it much thought but when I take a look back to my interior design days, retail and manufacturing businesses and building houses – it just seemed to lead me to the perfect place I am right now. I headed off to college straight from High School and ended up staying in the Kitchener area for six years before returning back home.
